I just wanted to take a moment (although a little late) to tell you how much I enjoyed using the CEM play, “All I Want for Christmas…is Jesus” for our church’s Christmas production. I received such good feedback from the congregation. Several people said it was the best Christmas program our church has seen in years. The instructions/suggestions for the play were fantastic and the play was easily adapted to our small church. Some students memorized their lines, some chose to have their lines written out for them, but both ways worked out very well. The minimal rehearsal time required was a blessing. My only complaint is that if I direct a play next Christmas, how can I top this production? Thanks so much for the ministry of CEM!

HAPPY TRAILS…THE WEST OF THE STORY is a Vacation Bible School we first presented several years ago. Churches said they wanted an event their boys would love to attend. We agreed and the cowboy theme has been popular ever since. Surprise! Not only do boys love the wild west, girls love it too! Future plans include an updated re-write of the program to include many current ideas and to give voice to what churches across the country have done when they created their own Wild West VBS. As always, the theme is a backdrop to learn more about Jesus. Students learn what happened in the lives of people after they met Jesus.

So you are the person who will take kids on a Christian camping adventure this summer! Congratulations! And…do we have material for you! Have you ever wanted to present a Sunday School series so different, so outrageous that everyone in the building says, “I want to be in THAT class”? We have a series that may meet that need!

THE BREAKFAST CLUB is a series of 13 week Sunday School classes for middle and senior high school students. Each session is held around a breakfast table filled with delicious food, real dishes and a nice centerpiece. From week to week, teens get to talk about issues they face in real life based on what the Bible says. Three weeks are reserved for breakfast with VIP’s. Choose folks from your church who share food, fellowship and their story with the group. Six questions get the conversation going.

JESUS THE MAN FROM GALILEE, CHRISTIANITY IS FOR LOSERS, THE HEAVEN SESSIONS and THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO ME are separate parts of the curriculum. The group eats, plays a table game and enjoys a short lesson/discussion.

We have noticed that some churches enjoy it so much that they base their evening Youth Group activities around the set up and re-name it THE SUPPER CLUB.

Quite awhile ago, CEM responded to a proposal by Heather Olson, a Children’s Ministry leader in Crown Point, INDIANA. She was working with a regional team who wanted a midweek children’s club geared to active, involved children of “baby boomers” who were coming back to churches in droves. It must be fun, interactive and present the gospel to churched and unchurched kids in an appealing way.

Together, our efforts produced an extremely successful midweek children’s program called CLOSE ENCOUNTERS CLUB. Divided into themed sections, CECLUB focuses on themes from the Old Testament, New Testament and Relationships. We hit biblical highlights of stories from Genesis through Revelation. These CECLUB themes have been so successful that currently we have over 600 churches become a CLOSE ENCOUNTERS Church. Easy to prepare from week to week, inexpensive and exciting, we have enjoyed working with groups in large, medium and small churches.

One result we did not anticipate has been the success of churches to use CECLUB as a church growth tool. Involve children and parents will follow. Most people are not hostile to the gospel, they are AFRAID to walk through the door of your church! Bringing families in through the back door is a great way to add families to your group. They make friends over a cup of coffee and craft project or game and soon your church becomes their church home.

Kids start CECLUB at SNACK AND YAK. They enjoy a delicious snack and play games. Then groups are divided between THE LEARNING CENTER and THE SURPRISE SHOPPE where the Bible themes are presented in fun, active ways. Everyone gathers in CLOSENCOUNTERSINGERS at the end of CECLUB to sing, sing, sing! And…we have t-shirts too!!!

CLOSE ENCOUNTERS MINISTRIES has developed a series of Sunday School quarters (13 weeks each) designed for churches who love a change of pace during summer months (or any time) when attendance is low. Instead of cancelling Sunday School for June, July and August, try one of our colorful themes. Check out all the titles we offer in our online catalog!

Divided into four fifteen minute activity centers, students Age 4-Grade 6 move from the Opening where they sing, take attendance and give offering to three centers involving a Bible Story, Game/Craft, Memory Verse/Snack.

The Master Manual we provide includes Director Information and complete lesson plans to guide leaders through a series of fun activities each week. Small groups rotate to various centers during the Sunday School hour. Easy preps for teachers is a plus as the 13 week Sunday School event moves along. Each quarter ends with a rousing celebration to complete the theme and create excitement for the next Sunday School quarter.

Through the years many church leaders called us (CEM) looking for a Vacation Bible School option that could be an all day event. Again and again we heard that some churches face a crisis of leadership for a full five day VBS. Finally a small church in Vermont called and said, “This is a ONE DAY VBS we’ve been writing. We’re tired. We don’t want to write any more. We want you to do it!” And so, we did! After checking out the large Christian publishers, we discovered no one was filling the need in this area of the Christian marketplace. So, instead of reviving old Sunday School curriculum or spending a lot of money on a five day VBS and cutting it down to One Day, we present a series of wonderfully fun, day long events for children from Age 4-Grade 6. Add adults for an evening picnic and/or concert and make a memory to last a lifetime.

Our current series includes LET’S ROCK, B.I.B.L.E. (Basic Information Before Leaving Earth), CROSS CREEK, FREEDOM ROAD, COUNTRY JUNCTION and YO, HO HOLY…A PIRATE’S GUIDE TO JESUS. Look for more ONE DAY VBS programs in the future.
